How does cooking work on board?
Before leaving for our trip we buy a ton of fresh foods at the grocery store, then we cook and eat together every day. There’s 3 tiers for cooking contributions:
Shared cooking – adults split cooking and cleaning duties equally. Cooking on the boat can be challenging, though. There’s limited space in the kitchen and sometimes you have to improvise while still cooking for a whole crew! Shared cooking is for seasoned chefs who are comfortable in the kitchen and cooking for large groups.
Chef – We will cook the meals and the adults split up cleaning duties. It’s still not easy doing dishes in our small kitchen, but most people get the hang of it if they don’t mind rolling up their sleeves.
Total relaxation – Sit back and let us clean and cook while you get the most out of your stay here.
What is the co-op?
Our circle of friends who want to build a community sailing and adventuring together. Joining the co-op requires sending in an application, having a video interview with us, and paying a $400 one-time fee. It’s a popular program on our trips, but it’s not for everyone. Often people stay away if they don’t want to apply/interview or if they’re going on a short trip.
Can I bring my kid who’s under 2 years old?
We love hosting families, but it can be very challenging having young kids aboard, so we avoid having kids under 2 on trips. Often it’s just more work for everyone than it’s worth.
What work trades can I do?
We have done great work trades with nannies, teachers, web developers, accountants, small business advisors, videographers, and sailors. Depending on the situation we can often offer 50 – 100% off the cabin fee. Reach out for more information!
For example, we recently hosted Ian, our boat school teacher in South Africa, Namibia
What do the cabins look like?
Main cabins sleep 2 and have an attached bathroom.

The small cabin is the V-berth at the bow of the ship.

The ship’s layout looks like this.

More about ocean passages
We give 50% discounts to hardy crew who join us for ocean passages. These open water journeys take 14+ days and are great way to sharpen your sailing chops and see a part of the world that so few people ever see. You might want to come for a passage if you’re ready to work some night shifts and want to improve your sailing skills.
Here’s a blog post from our Atlantic passage.
